Dear Roxana Hartmann,

As requested, I am providing information regarding the TONI- 2 and Mark's performance on this test as part of our research. For the past three years, we have been studying a language-free, intelligence test called the Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (TONI-2). This test examines visual abstract reasoning processes. Normative data on the TONI-2 has already been collected on over 2,500 children with various disorders, such as mental retardation and learning disabilities as well as on children without any cognitive impairments.

Mark was given the TONI-2 in May, 1992, and he performed quite well; his score was 111. Since Mark's primary problem is his communication abilities, other language-based intelligence tests may not provide an accurate evaluation of his cognitive abilities.

We have submitted for publication a report containing our research findings on the validity and reliability of the TONI-2 for people with autism.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
